LB SHORT REJOINS GIANTS

The Giants yesterday reunited with linebacker Brandon Short.

After two seasons with the Panthers, Short rejoins the Giants, with whom he spent his first four NFL seasons. After starting 15 of 16 regular-season games with Carolina last season, Short was released March 2.

“The Giants have always been a class organization and I’m happy to be back and be a part of it,” Short said.

Short, a fourth-round pick of the Giants in 2000, started for three years before signing with the Panthers before the 2004 season. In 91 regular-season games, including 61 starts, Short has 350 tackles, 7 ½ sacks and two INTs.

“Brandon has played on winning teams his whole career, including the Giants,” GM Ernie Accorsi said.

The Jets continued their tour yesterday, sending a representative to Oregon to visit with QB Kellen Clemens, who’s also drawn interest from San Diego and Baltimore.

Interestingly, Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and coach Eric Mangini were not in Oregon. They returned to New York and were in the team office on Long Island yesterday.

The Jets are scheduled to visit with Texas QB Vince Young today in Houston, but a team official could not confirm whether Tannenbaum or Mangini would be making that trip. If not, that would be rather telling since both were heavily involved in visits with USC QB Matt Leinart and Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler.

The Jets signed free-agent offensive lineman Anthony Clement yesterday.

Clement, 6-8, 320, is an eight-year veteran who spent last season with the 49ers.
