Spring finally sprung yesterday, with sunny skies spreading warmer-than-usual temperatures across the region.
March was the driest on record in the city, with just 0.8 inches of precipitation – less than one-fifth the normal level.
But after a cold winter, yesterday’s top Central Park temperature of 68 – 13 degrees warmer than average – was a downright pleasure to Diana and Robert Altman.
They brought their entire family – including the dog – to rent a rowboat on the lake.
“I picked the right day to take off, definitely,” said Robert.
Today will be about as warm – but we might get some rain and maybe even a thundershower, said AccuWeather meteorologist John Gresiak.
Tomorrow the weather will be mostly sunny, with a high around 64.
We might get a bit more rain on Monday, Gresiak said. By midweek, temperatures will cool into the mid 50s – a little chillier than normal.
The prolonged dry spell, combined with gusty winds, mean brushfires remain a threat, the National Weather Service says.
