VOTER-BIAS SUIT VS. CITY

Chinese- and Korean-speaking city residents who claim problems at the polls have blocked them from exercising their right to vote hit the Board of Elections with a federal lawsuit yesterday.

The lawsuit cites more than 10 years of alleged failure on the part of the city to provide assistance to voters with limited proficiency in English.

“Instead of comprehensive compliance and reforms . . . the board has responded with isolated Band-Aid fixes,” said Glenn Magpantay, an attorney with the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, which filed the suit.

A city spokeswoman declined comment.
