APARTMENT FIRE KILLS BED-STUY RESIDENT

An unidentified man was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment last night after a fire tore through his kitchen, authorities said.

His body was found on the second floor of a three-story brownstone on Madison Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant at 7 p.m. Firefighters said the fire didn’t appear suspicious.

In Queens, a 6-year-old was in critical condition at Jacobi Hospital with burns to the chest and hands suffered when a candle he’d been playing with set his shirt on fire in his family’s apartment on Edgewater Street in Rosedale.

His aunt quickly placed the unidentified boy in the shower to extinguish the flames, neighbors said, but then the bedroom drapes also caught fire.

Meanwhile, a four-alarm blaze sent four residents of an Elmhurst apartment building to Elmhurst Hospital with minor injuries.

That fire, which is under investigation, erupted at about 6 p.m. at 41-65 Foley St.
