NEW U.S. ATTY. FOR MANHATTAN

Former terrorist-busting prosecutor Michael Garcia has been nominated by President Bush to be the next U.S. attorney in Manhattan.

The White House made the announcement yesterday, paving the way for Garcia, currently the assistant secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to replace U.S. Attorney David Kelley for a four-year term.

Garcia faces confirmation by the Senate.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan is familiar territory for Garcia, who worked as a prosecutor there from 1992 to 2001.
