Ka-pow! The Caped Crusader winged nose-twitching witch Samantha Stephens at the box office, as “Batman Begins” easily beat “Bewitched” over the weekend.
“Batman,” starring Christian Bale and Katie Holmes, took in $26.8 million to remain at No. 1 for the second straight weekend. It has a 12-day total of $121.7 million.
Meanwhile, with abysmal reviews haunting it, Nora Ephron’s remake of the classic ’60s sitcom about a witch in suburbia – starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell – didn’t fly as high, debuting in second place with $20.2 million.
“Mr. and Mrs. Smith” continued to rake in the big bucks, with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s spy thriller slipping one place, but still pulling in $16.8 million for a total of $125.4 million after three weekends.
It whipped newcomer “Herbie: Fully Loaded,” Disney’s remake of its ’60s flick about a feisty Volkswagen Beetle. The Lindsay Lohan, uh, vehicle earned $12.8 million for the weekend, and $17.8 million since debuting Wednesday.
