RICE TOPS XAVERIAN AT HAWAIIAN TOURNEY

One of the first battles for supremacy in the CHSAA took place in an unusual place yesterday.

Xaverian and Rice didn’t meet in Brooklyn or The Bronx. Instead, the teams met in Honolulu, where Rice knocked off Xaverian, 62-42, to win the championship game of the Iolani Classic.

Senior guard Taskico Brown led the Raiders with 24 points, while junior phenom Curtis Kelly added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Levance Fields led Xaverian with 17 points.

The teams beat nationally ranked opponents to get to the final, with Rice beating Fairfax (Calif.) and the Clippers getting by Montverde (Fla.) in the semifinals.

Rice’s Edgar Sosa was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.
