NEW SWIFT AD FIRES ON ‘DOVE’

WASHINGTON – Vietnam veterans opposing John Kerry are about to launch a new TV ad – the first to go nationwide – focusing on what Kerry did after his combat duty, sources say.

The $800,000 ad buy by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth will be unveiled next week. Simultaneously, vets will get the national spotlight when President Bush, joined by POW hero Sen. John McCain, speaks to the American Legion on Tuesday followed by Kerry on Wednesday.

Some strategists say Kerry should use his speech to answer questions about his antiwar speeches. A poll by the Annenberg Center yesterday said 52 percent of those who knew about his remarks disapproved. (p. 6 Metro)
