PLUCKY L.I. CLERK FOILS HEFTY HEISTER

An overweight woman with a green towel wrapped around her head in a turban aimed a gun at a Long Island grocery clerk and demanded cash – but fled empty-handed after the clerk was slow about handing any over.

The woman entered the Stop and Shop at 3400 Merrick Road in Seaford at 11:59 p.m. Monday and pulled a handgun on Rajesh Bansal, one of the store’s two owners.

“Give me all your pocket money and the money from the register or I’ll shoot you,” she told Bansal.

“She was a very, very big lady,” Bansal said. “I wasn’t scared. Life is life . . . I am working 17, 18 hours, every single day, seven days a week,” he said. “I don’t want to give her the money.”

As Bansal stalled the woman and reached for the alarm button, another customer saw the commotion and asked if anything was wrong.

The robber then noticed two customers heading for the store, Bansal said.

So she ran outside to a red SUV, which drove off. Two other people were in the car, said police.

The suspect is described as a white woman, between 30 and 40 years old, weighing 280 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt, with dirty blond hair in a ponytail beneath the turban-like green towel.

Though Bansal said he wasn’t scared, the store’s co-owner, Sajjad Shah, said Bansal seemed “very shaken” after the robbery.
