QUICK AND E-Z AT OUTERBRIDGE

Drivers will be able to zip through high-speed E-ZPass toll lanes next year at the Outerbridge Crossing under a new Port Authority program to keep traffic flowing, officials said.

The $9.9 million pilot program will start next summer at the bridge, which connects Staten Island to New Jersey, and will eventually be implemented at the George Washington, Goethals and Bayonne bridges.

“Highway-speed E-ZPass toll lanes will increase convenience for our customers,” said PA Vice Chairman Charles Gargano.

The project will create two barrier-free lanes that will let drivers travel through the Outerbridge Crossing’s toll plaza at the 45-mph speed limit posted on the span.

Motorists are currently able to drive 15 mph through the tollbooths.
