SADDAM COULD FACE COURT SOON

Coming soon to an Iraqi court: Saddam Hussein.

Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said yesterday that Saddam would be charged by the new Iraq government as early as Friday, two days after the return of Iraqi sovereignty.

Saddam will be hauled into court in handcuffs “to show our people that this miserable soul is in the hands of Iraqis now,” said Iraqi national security adviser Muwafak al-Rubaie.

The courtroom drama is merely symbolic. Iraq will try the deposed tyrant for crimes against his people, but he will remain in U.S. custody, Secretary of State Colin Powell said.
