LOS ANGELES – Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will make his first overseas trip as California’s leading man on Saturday by visiting Israel to break ground on a tolerance museum, officials said.
The Terminator has been dogged throughout his acting career and short political life by the sins of his father – a World War II Nazi in Austria – and Schwarzenegger aggressively supports Jewish causes.
On this trip, Schwarzenegger’s expected to touch down in Tel Aviv on Saturday night and attend a reception with Israeli business leaders.
On Sunday, the governor’s set to help break ground on the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Center for Human Dignity Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem.
A Wiesenthal spokeswoman said Schwarzenegger had already accepted an invitation to attend the groundbreaking before his election.
