‘MARTHA’ RIPS FEDS ON RETRY BID

Lawyers for prison-bound Martha Stewart yesterday blasted federal prosecutors for asking a judge to throw out her claim that she deserves a new trial because a juror lied to get on panel.

The lawyers, Robert Morvillo and John Tigue, issued a furious statement saying, “The hypocrisy of the government’s response to the motion of Martha Stewart for a new trial based on juror misconduct borders on the unimaginable.”

Morvillo has charged that juror Chappell Hartridge concealed a domestic-violence arrest to get on the jury and then helped convict Stewart of lying and obstruction of justice because he’d been biased against her.

The government on Wednesday filed a response charging Stewart’s lawyers with making a “desperate” bid to “humiliate and embarrass” Hartridge.
