TRANSIT STAFF DEMAND DRILLS

Transit workers want to be involved in terror training drills in order to help straphangers evacuate from subway cars and stations in the event of an attack, union officials said yesterday.

In the wake of last month’s Madrid train bombings that killed 191 passengers, Transport Workers Union Local 100 President Roger Toussaint fired off a letter to city officials calling for station agents and conductors to participate in terror training drills, sources said.

The NYPD recently held simulated attack response drills on subway cars – including a possible train explosion – that did not include any transit workers.

The Transit Authority has provided conductors and station agents with anti-terror training manuals since 9/11.
