STARR REPORT

The Abrams report

As expected, Ch. 2 will announce today that it’s hired Roz Abrams, formerly of Ch. 7, as its marquee anchor along with Ernie Anastos.

Ch. 2 spokeswoman Audrey Pass wouldn’t comment yesterday, but it’s expected that 11 p.m. fixture Dana Tyler will move to another Ch. 2 newscast, with Abrams and Anastos anchoring at 6 and 11 p.m.

Abrams spent 17 years at Ch. 7 before leaving the ABC- owned station late last year.

In other CBS news, tryouts for “Big Brother 5” will be held this Sunday (noon-8 p.m.) at Fight House Studios (122 West 27th, 2nd floor). You need a completed application, available at cbs.com, two photos and two forms of ID and will be able to videotape your two-minute spiel as to why you should be on the show. “BB5,” hosted by Julie Chen, airs this summer.

Interesting quote from Peabody Awards director Horace Newcomb yesterday in announcing this year’s winners. “The winners announced today are a strong reflection of the current state of the media industry,” he said. “Of note in 2003 was the similarity of coverage on the international front, such as the war in Iraq and the apparent difficulties encountered by entertainment showsto make their way through the welter of ‘reality’ programming (my italics).

Katie Couric presents the awards May 17 at the Waldorf. Among the winners: NBC News, CBS News, Showtime, Transom.org (first Web winner) and Ch. 13.
