MYSTERY DEEPENS IN DRIVE-BY SHOOT

Detectives were seeking suspects and a motive in the mysterious shooting of a father and son, both of whom were blasted in the face Friday night while driving on the Harlem River Drive.

The victims, who are 65 and 37 and live in New Jersey, were driving north in a white Cadillac Escalade when as many as three people pulled up along side them in a “dark-colored vehicle” between West 145th and 148th streets before opening fire with one or more weapons, said NYPD Chief of Detectives George Brown.

The victims were wounded by the fusillade of gunfire and taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition.

Sources initially said the incident may have been sparked by road rage. But Brown appeared to back away from that assessment yesterday, insisting that the motive for the attack was still under investigation.

Brown said that based upon preliminary accounts, there was no clear evidence that either of the victims had done anything on the highway to incite the men in the other vehicle to violence.
