Got cash?
You’re going to need more of it to buy milk beginning next Wednesday as retail prices rocket 9 cents a gallon.
That’s the sour news from the state Department of Agriculture, which is raising the maximum price stores can charge for milk.
The top price for a gallon can now be as much as $3.25.
Milk prices have risen steadily over the past three months beginning with a 4-cent hike per gallon on July 1. That was followed by a 21-cent increase on Aug. 1 and a 47-cent boost on Sept. 1.
Next week’s 9-cent hike, makes an 81-cent price jump from the maximum price of $2.44 per gallon earlier this year.
