NEW PLAN INSURES YOUR METROCARD

Straphangers who use unlimited monthly MetroCards will be able to replace them for free if they’re lost or stolen, under an MTA insurance plan that goes into effect next month.

The program, to be unveiled Monday, will protect riders who buy a $70 unlimited card at a machine with a debit or credit card.

Riders – who will automatically be signed up for the free insurance – will get a refund the first time they lose their pass, but will have to shell out $5 if it’s lost a second time.
