FLOYD LEAVES TEAM TO SEE AILING DAD

MET NOTES

PHOENIX – Cliff Floyd left for Florida early yesterday morning on a trip of a personal nature.

The Met left fielder was scheduled to visit the Miami area today for a second opinion on his aching right Achilles, but Floyd instead traveled to visit his father, Cornelius, who is having health problems related to a previous kidney transplant.

Floyd will be unable to see his former Marlins team physicians because they were unable to clear time on their schedules. He is expected to see Met team physician Andrew Rokito again during the next homestand.

According to Art Howe, Floyd is expected to return to New York for tomorrow night’s game against the Giants.

Floyd, who is hitting .275 with a team-leading 18 homers and 62 RBIs, did not start either of the previous games against the Diamondbacks. He struck out as a pinch-hitter on Friday night and was announced and then replaced as a pinch-hitter the following night.

Tony Clark arrived extra early yesterday for treatment on his bruised right shoulder. Clark, starting at first base on Saturday, took a Luis Gonzalez grounder off the shoulder in the fourth inning and left two innings later.

Clark took anti-inflammatories and received a massage in order to loosen up the area. He said late Saturday that he found it uncomfortable to throw or swing the bat.

“I’m encouraged that it’s feeling better than [Saturday] night,” Clark said.
