WEATHER PUTS REAL DAMPER ON COMMUTE

Fierce thunderstorms battered the Big Apple yesterday, bringing flash floods and causing a nightmarish commute home for thousands.

And guess what folks – that was just the beginning.

Forecasters are predicting a 60 to 70 percent chance of rain every single day through Monday.

“The weather pattern over the area is stagnant, it’s a very moist environment. And we’re not going to lift out of it for the rest of the week,” said Tim Morrin of the National Weather Service.

What’s worse is that the daytime temperatures will hover in the mid 80s, with the humidity about 75 percent.

At night, the mercury will plummet about 10 degrees, but the humidity will zoom to nearly 100 percent, making air conditioners and fans a must for a decent night’s sleep.

“Unless you are acclimated to this kind of tropical type weather, you’re going to be miserable,” Morrin said.

“Until we get a dry front and clean air mass coming through, we’re stuck with the current conditions.”

The yucky weather has been around off and on since Friday, but yesterday, Mother Nature really reared her ugly head when lightning bolts suddenly let loose over Midtown, around 2 p.m.

Pedestrians ran for cover as ear-shattering thunderboomers shook the area and the heavens opened up.

By late afternoon, the sun was peeking through, but was later covered up by more ominous storm clouds.

Morrin said the upcoming weekend may not be as rainy as the next few days, but there will be showers regardless Saturday and Sunday, sometimes heavy.

“The weekend will be really just a watered-down version of what you’ve got now,” he said.

In other words, better start planning some indoor activities and forget about the beach.
