$33M FOR KID-STRESS COUNSELING

The city has gotten $33 million in federal funds to help counsel students about the Sept. 11 attacks and the pending war in Iraq, Mayor Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein said yesterday.

The money will help counsel more than a quarter of city public-school students reported suffering from traumatic-related disorders after 9/11.

The money provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency is earmarked specifically for crisis counseling.

Klein said counselors could address the pending war with Iraq, which could reopen psychological wounds of students still traumatized by terror and worried about their safety.

“A lot of children suffered. We need to be sensitive here,” he said.
