The Bloomberg administration was surprised by the Manhattan district attorney’s decision to drop the case against a Pakistani diplomat accused of beating up a woman, sources told The Post yesterday.
“We’re a little baffled,” said a city official who spoke on condition of anonymity. “We don’t quite understand it.”
U.N. Ambassador Munir Akram was under investigation for allegedly hitting a friend, Marijana Mihic, 35, and smashing her head into a wall on Dec. 10.
But once police arrived at her Upper East Side townhouse, Mihic changed her story, saying she had fallen. She refused to press charges.
Akram – who is separated from his Geneva-based American wife – said he is still friends with Mihic.
“Women get angry,” he said. “You know how it is.”
The DA’s office declined to say why the case was dropped.
