ROBESON COACH REINSTATED

When Robeson plays Transit Tech tomorrow, Eagles head coach Larry Major will be back with his team.

Major, who was suspended indefinitely by the PSAL after a brawl broke out after a hard foul during the third quarter of a game at Boys & Girls last Tuesday, was reinstated after meeting with league director Kevin Gill yesterday.

“I recognize the importance of the perception of Brooklyn basketball,” Major said in a statement.

He didn’t coach yesterday in Robeson’s win over Jefferson and the team forfeited its game against Banneker last Thursday. “We want to get as many recruiters as possible to look at our players so that they have a chance to compete at the next level. I accept responsibility for the actions of my team. We’re ready to go back to work.”

Boys & Girls head coach Ruth Lovelace also served a two-game suspension, but Gill was concerned because Major’s team had been involved in controversies prior to last week.

“I am satisfied that [Major] regrets what happened and intends to see that it does not happen again,” Gill said in a statement, but didn’t let Major off the hook completely. “Our observers are going to be paying a lot of attention to the boys’ basketball program in Brooklyn this year.”
