VILLAGE HAS H2-WOES

A water-main break created quite a splash downtown last night, flooding West Houston Street from Greenwich to West Street.

The break happened on West Houston Street near Greenwich Street around 6 p.m., said fire officials.

The heavily flooded Houston Street was closed to traffic from Varick to West Streets, with most of the water flowing west.

Five firefighters responded, according to Fire Department sources.

Department of Environmental Protection spokesman Charlie Sturcken confirmed the break and said DEP units were working to repair the scene.
