CITY COMPTROLLER WILLIAM THOMPSON ISSUED A REPORT YESTERDAY SHOWING THAT 20 CENTS OF EVERY TAX DOLLAR COLLECTED BY THE CITY WILL BE GOING TO PAY INTEREST ON BONDS

City Comptroller William Thompson issued a report yesterday showing that 20 cents of every tax dollar collected by the city will be going to pay interest on bonds by 2006.

Right now, 16 ½ cents of every tax dollar pays for debt service.

Thompson urged city officials to “act now” to develop a long-term plan for reducing the growing debt burden that makes it harder to fund other city services.

The report Thompson was required to produce by the City Charter contained the same data that the administration had issued in April.
