GRANNY DIES AS CAR RAMS P.O.

A driver mistakenly stepped on the gas instead of the brakes and plowed her car into a busy Bronx post office yesterday, killing an 82-year-old grandmother, cops said.

Three other bystanders, including a 14-month-old baby, were hurt in the tragic accident around 3:45 p.m. at the Classon Point Post Office in a small mall at Soundview and Storey avenues.

Cops said driver Annette Myers, 61, of The Bronx was trying to park her car when her black sedan lurched into the post office entrance, bringing down part of its wall and killing Providencia Santana, who lived nearby.

“The woman who died went flying through the air about 6 feet. There was blood everywhere and a lot of broken glass,” said Raymond Romero, 52, who was brushed by Myer’s vehicle.

“I saw an elderly woman and a [little] boy pinned under the fender. The driver looked like she was in shock.”

Those injured were in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Nancy McPartlin said.

Romero said Myers appeared to be driving at about 10 to 15 mph.

“I put up my hand for her to stop, and that’s when her right fender hit me,” he said.

Romero said the car plowed into the mailbox in front of the post office and knocked it through the glass. There were about 20 people inside, he said.
