SUBWAY TERROR ENDS IN DEATH

A crazed man was shot dead on a Bronx subway train last night after he threatened passengers with knives and stabbed a police lieutenant in the arm, cops said.

The unidentified man brandished the knives aboard a southbound No. 2 train as it pulled into the East 180th Street station at about 10:30 p.m.

Frightened straphangers alerted cops, who cleared riders from the train and cornered the suspect in the front car. Cops used rubber bullets to try to disarm the man, but they had little effect, a source said.

When Emergency Service Unit cops went into the train to try to restrain the man, he stabbed a lieutenant in the forearm.

Officers then shot the man, believed to be in his 20s. He was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital.

The lieutenant, whose name was not released, was listed in stable condition. also at Jacobi.
