“Runaway Bride” Julia Roberts celebrated a stay-at-home wedding yesterday, marrying her cameraman sweetheart at her canyon-view New Mexico ranch.
The Oscar-winning actress made it legal with her lensman lover, Danny Moder, in a rain-soaked midnight ceremony – the time of night fitting well with what the invitation called a “Midsummers Night DreamISH” theme.
The small but star-studded affair at Roberts’ spread just outside trendy Taos included actors George Clooney and Brad Pitt among its 50-odd guests.
Also in attendance was Steven Soderbergh, who directed Roberts in “Ocean’s 11” and in “Erin Brockovich,” for which she won an Academy Award.
Roberts’ publicist confirmed the wedding shortly afterward, but details of the Independence Day declarations of dependence were kept tightly under wraps.
Guests were flown in from Los Angeles and instructed that the dress code was loose: “Think Linen, try Seersucker,” read the invitations.
The invitations didn’t say to bring umbrellas – but could have.
Clouds bearing thunderstorms and torrential rain bore down on the dusty town.
The deluge started Wednesday afternoon – continuing so heavily that parts of neighboring Texas were flooded – but stopped just a half-hour after the wedding’s midnight start-up.
In lieu of rain hats, many of the guests were spotted wearing cowboy hats in honor of what the invitation also called the wedding’s “Wild West Bohemian” motif.
The party continued past dawn, with guests reportedly chowing down on southwest-style barbecue as throngs of media pressed their noses up against the estate perimeter.
Roberts recently built a tiny wooden chapel on her 51-acre ranch – complete with a cross on the roof – and put up a spacious white tent for the extravaganza.
It’s the second “aisle-do” for the 34-year-old Roberts, one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses.
The star of “Runaway Bride” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding” was married in 1993 to country singer Lyle Lovett. They divorced 21 months later.
She jilted actor Kiefer Sutherland in 1991 just three days before their wedding – to run off with another actor, Jason Patric.
The toothy brunette’s love life has been gossip fodder ever since she catapulted to stardom opposite Richard Gere in the romantic comedy “Pretty Woman” in 1990.
She’s been linked to co-stars Dylan McDermott and Liam Neeson.
Last year, she ended a four-year relationship with actor Benjamin Bratt just days after announcing that she was still madly in love with him.
Bratt married actress Talisa Soto in April.
Roberts fell for the then-married Moder, 33, after meeting him two years ago on the set of “The Mexican,” which co-starred Pitt.
Moder left his wife of five years – makeup artist Vera Steinberg – to be with Roberts.
Roberts has reportedly said she and Moder, who is also a television documentary maker, would love to have “a whole gaggle of kids” together.
The couple made their first public appearance back in April, at the Taos Talking Picture Festival.
