HIGH ANXIETY PLAGUES THE NATION

What, we worry?

Millions of Americans are plagued with anxiety disorders – and most aren’t doing anything about it, a magazine article reports.

A range of clinical anxiety disorders – the lingering feelings of worry which hinder a person’s life – plagues 19 million Americans, according to the latest issue of Time.

And while anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in America, less than 25 percent of the those who have these sicknesses seek treatment, said the article, citing a UCLA study conducted last January.

Anxiety is a normal emotional and evolutionary response, the magazine cautions, but the response could become a problem if it stays too long after a threat moves on and begins impeding with everyday activities.

Those concerned should seek a diagnosis from a trained professional. Different types of treatments are available for the affliction.
