A Queens grand jury has indicted a “vegan” couple on new assault charges that could land them 25 years in prison for nearly starving their infant daughter to death.
The three-count indictment, unsealed yesterday, charges Joseph and Silva Swinton with assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child for failing to properly feed their daughter, Ice. They’re being held in lieu of $20,000 bail apiece.
The vegans fed Ice a diet of nuts, seeds, vegetables, oils and fruits without providing mother’s milk, infant formula and post-natal care, prosecutors said.
