TRAVELER’S UPDATE

Double deal

A new package from France Vacations combines Paris with a cruise through the Grand Canal of Venice. For $1,069, you fly with Air France from JFK to Charles de Gaulle airport and spend four nights at one of six first-class hotels (breakfasts included). Then you fly to Venice, where you spend three nights aboard the M.S. Swiss Venice (meals included). The 100-passenger ship was completely renovated last year and has all outside cabins featuring large windows that can be opened. Meals on the ship are included in the price, as are all transfers. The return flight to New York leaves from Venice; the special runs through March. For details: (800) 332-5332, http://www.francevacations.net

The Rum & Reggae Travel Guides’ trademark is “fearless and bitchy,” but we prefer “plain-spoken, thorough and irreverent” to describe its newest guide to Hawaii by Jonathan Runge ($19.95). If you’re headed to the Aloha State, this book may be all you need to navigate the tourist-infested waters of one of America’s most-beautiful – and well-trodden – destinations. Great for active, savvy travelers who are comfortable on or off the beaten path, the guide is jam-packed with opinionated information on lodging, restaurants, nightlife and activities on all the islands. You won’t find any pictures, but you’ll hardly notice.
