TW CABLE POISED TO SAY YES TO YANKS

As the new Yankee channel struggles to get onto Cablevision, it has apparently found a home on Time Warner in New York City.

The Yankee Entertainment & Sports channel is expected to debut on Time Warner City Cable next month on Channel 27, where it will share space with CNNfn, the financial channel.

It apparently will take the channel number of MSG Network, which carried Yankee games until YES was formed and is partly owned by Cablevision.

It will also appear on Time Warner’s digital tier.

Meanwhile, YES – which is embroiled in a bitter and likely protracted negotiation with Cablevision – targeted Cablevision subscribers in a phone-survey last week and found that about 82 percent want the YES channel added to their free basic cable lineup.

Cablevision, headed by regional media mogul Jim Dolan, wants YES to be a premium channel, like HBO and Showtime, while YES insists it must be available to all subscribers.

“We heard that Jim Dolan was going to do a survey, so we went out and did one on our own,” YES CEO Leo Hindery Jr. told The Post yesterday.

Cablevision rep Charlie Schueler said the company has already surveyed some of its subscribers about YES, but refused to disclose the results.

“We don’t typically comment on other people’s research, Schueler said.
