STARR REPORT

Visnjic gorin’ his European neighbors

“ER” star Goran Visnjic, who’s Croatian, doesn’t hide his feeling for neighboring Serbia in the March issue of Esquire.

“The Serbs: just boom boom boom boom. A-holes,” says Visnjic, who plays Dr. Luka Kovac. “I said I would never grab a gun again in my life, and then [stuff] started happening in Croatia. And I just took a gun again, in my city.”

Visjnic also proves he’s not really a doctor – but just plays one on TV when asked about the Heimlich maneuver.

“Is that the one where somebody’s choking?” he says.

Mathis makes Coretta Scott King for a day

Judge Greg Mathis, known for giving back to the community, is continuing that trait this month during Black History Month.

“Judge Mathis” will air three in-show vignettes about some of the many African-Americans who helped build this country – Coretta Scott King (Feb. 14), the wife of Martin Luther King Jr.; “Roots” author Alex Haley (Feb. 22), who also wrote “The Autobiography of Malcolm X”; and George Washington Carver (Feb. 28). “Judge Mathis” airs weekdays at noon on Ch. 11.

‘Rebuilding’ theme gives kids a shot

Ch. 13 is giving your kid the chance to be a big-shot producer.

The PBS-owned station is holding a contest in TV and multimedia production for children in the tri-state area. The kids, ages kindergarten through 12th grade, must produce a video or design a website around the theme of “Rebuilding” – which could apply to Ground Zero, community, home or any variation on the theme.

Entrants will be divided into three groups of ages – 5-10, 11-13 and 14-18. Submissions are due April 15. Winning entries will be announced May 15 and individual or group entries are acceptable. Go to http://www.thirteen.org/edonline/rebuilding/guidelines.html for more information.

Proud Papa leads fellow ‘FUV alumni

This is a busy week for Fordham University alumni who once worked at the university’s radio station WFUV (90.7 FM).

Bob Papa, voice of the Giants and ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” will be working his fourth Olympic Games for NBC. Mike Breen, a fellow Fordham U. alum, will also be in Salt Lake City.

Yankees play-by-play guy Michael Kay, meanwhile, will emcee the Fordham athletic Hall of Fame inductions tomorrow at the McGinley Center on the Rose Hill Campus. The induction begins at noon. And Spero Dedes, winner of the first Marty Glickman Award for Broadcast Excellence, will be on WFAN’s (660 AM) overnight shift tonight.

This just in . . .

Sources say Bobby Rivers has been approached by “Today” show weatherman Al Roker about the possibility of being part of a film-review talk show for Al Roker Productions.

TRIO (TW Digital/Ch. 102) will feature a 19-hour “Laugh-In” marathon next Thursday.
