WTC DONATIONS PROBE

ALBANY – Assembly Democrats plan hearings next month on whether donations to help victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks are reaching the people who need them.

“Generous individuals, companies and other groups from New York City and throughout our state, our country and all over the world have opened up their hearts and made contributions,” said Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

“We owe it to victims and contributors to see that all who need help receive it, and that funds are directed as the donors intended,” added Silver (D-Manhattan).

Exact dates and locations for the hearings have not yet been determined, but state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer is expected to testify.
