PBA WARNS COPS TO STEER FROM WASHINGTON DUTY

The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association yesterday warned its members to think twice about volunteering for duty in Washington during next month’s meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

“I want to remind you, the PBA has serious unresolved concerns about this undertaking,” union President Patrick Lynch wrote in a letter.

“Any volunteers for these assignments would be doing so at their own risk since there are so many unresolved questions of indemnification, etc.”

The union is concerned about legal coverage, as well as injury and death benefits for cops who staff the confab, which authorities fear could explode into anti-globalization riots.

The NYPD is still working with Washington on a plan to indemnify 1,000 officers and supervisors who would be lent to the nation’s capital, but the details have not been finalized.
