N.Y. COP IN SLAY-SUICIDE – SHOOTS LOVE RIVAL, SELF

An enraged New York City cop blew his brains out after wounding his estranged wife and 3-year-old son and killing her live-in lover, police said.

The bloodbath was witnessed by the couple’s four other kids, who could be heard screaming in horror as the shots rang out in the Orange County town of Montgomery, 80 miles north of Manhattan.

The officer, Daniel Drury, was a seven-year veteran who most recently was assigned to Manhattan South Narcotics.

State Police said Drury, 37, had returned to the house Saturday at 7:15 p.m. from an outing with one of his children, when he and Maureen Drury began a furious screaming match.

As the fight escalated, Officer Drury pulled his 9mm service pistol and fired several shots, killing his wife’s boyfriend, Mark Van Kleeck, 38, authorities said. He also hit Maureen, and his son Ian, whom she was holding, in their legs. Then Drury shot himself to death.

“I heard screaming, then two gunshots, then screaming from all the kids,” neighbor Dineen Conroy told the Middletown Times-Herald Record.

“And I heard boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! The kids were screaming, and I knew something was wrong.”

Through tears, Conroy recalled how she had planned to join the Drury family for a Mother’s Day party yesterday.

Police said the estranged couple’s sobbing 13-year-old son called 911 after the shooting.

Neighbors said the Drurys’ four boys and one girl range in age from 2 to 14. The couple separated three years ago, and Van Kleeck later moved in, neighbors said.
