PAL: RICKY’S LIVIN’ LA VIDA DUBYA

Ricky Martin’s songwriter and childhood pal has gone loco over the swivel-hipped crooner’s plans to sing his tune at President-elect Bush’s inauguration.

“Singing ‘The Cup of Life’ at George Bush’s inauguration is like playing the fiddle while Rome burns,” said songwriter Robi “Draco” Rosa, who authored the song, as well as Martin’s megahit “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” and several others. Rosa sang with Martin in the 1980’s Latin boy-group Menudo. He’s had modest success as a solo artist. He apparently opposes Bush’s politics – and thinks Martin should too.

“This is a betrayal of everything every Puerto Rican should stand for,” Rosa said in a statement released Friday.

“This is a president who would have people . . . obstruct the exercise of civil rights, human rights, consumer rights, the right to choose, the right to be free of gun violence and the right to a clean environment.” Martin couldn’t be reached for comment.
