RUDY: DREAM TEAM? DREAM ON

Mayor Giuliani appeared yesterday to rule out running for state attorney general with Gov. Pataki on a “dream team” Republican ticket next year.

“I’m not a candidate for attorney general,” said Giuliani, who is in his last year as mayor. “I don’t know where that came from.”

But Giuliani may have left the door open, noting, “I am not a candidate for anything right now.”

After a string of high-profile Republican losses in recent years, many in the GOP see a Pataki-Giuliani team as a strong counter to what is expected to be a tough Democratic ticket.

Pataki said yesterday he’d have no problem running on the same ticket with Giuliani – but refused to say if he wants to.

Pataki and Giuliani have had a tense relationship since the mayor endorsed Mario Cuomo vs. Pataki in 1994.
