THE STARR REPORT

Fox first with ‘Elian’?

The Fox Family Channel is rushing to film a biopic called “The Elian Gonzalez Story” by September, Variety reports. The cable channel hopes to beat CBS, which has its own flick about the Cuban refugee kid scheduled to air in November.

‘Hazzard'(ous) speed

“Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider might have a light touch on screen, but he’s got a lead foot when it comes to driving.

Schneider, reuniting with Catherine Bach and Tom Wopat in a CBS “Hazzard” reunion movie tonight, is a guest on today’s “Donny & Marie” (noon on Ch. 5).

As a gag, Schneider decided to drive the classic “Hazzard” car, General Lee – which he owns – into the “D&M” studios. But he failed to properly negotiate a turn and, with brakes screeching, knocked over a hot-dog stand on the way in.

The “D&M” studio was left smelling like burnt rubber – and General Lee with a foot-long dent.

Principal’s principles

Jane Pauley, TV star, we know. Jane Pauley, influential principal – well, that’s another story.

Pauley not only participated in last month’s “Principal for a Day” program – sitting in at The High School For Leadership & Public Service – but she started a drive to get teens there to register to vote.

So successful was Jane’s drive that over half of the eligible students registered – and new Schools Chancellor Harold Levy visited the school yesterday.

This just in . . .

Diane Sawyer’s interview with Michael J. Fox on Wednesday’s “20/20” won its time slot (10-11 p.m.) among adults 18-49.
