INJURED TOSCANO OUT 4-6 MONTHS

Paul Toscano, who broke his arm in a spill at Aqueduct Saturday, had a plate inserted during a two-hour procedure yesterday at Jamaica Hospital. Toscano’s arm was broken in two places. The plate will aid the healing process. He is expected to be out of action four to six months.

Apprentice jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. was suspended 15 days for careless riding in the seventh race Saturday aboard Seeking the Sky, who tried to force her way outside, bumping with Anthenian Thunder and eventually caused her to check and dump jockey Shaun Bridgmohan. Arroyo had appealed the suspension and a stay has been granted.

In Florida, Robbie Davis was thrown from a horse during morning workouts Saturday and suffered a cracked collarbone. It is unknown how long he will be out.

1ST RACE — Despite bad news about DQ and suspension, Arroyo came back with another impressive off-pace ride, this time with Impulse Shopper. After rating in fifth, Arroyo angled to outside and wore down Mini Scent for victory. Nice job by Janice Blake to get place spot. Despite being hard used throughout on rail, Mini Scent started to draw off in stretch after putting away pacesetter America’s Belle, but she could not hold off eventual winner. Razzberry Beret was surprising favorite but after being rushed up to run closer to pace than normal, she was inexplicably flat in stretch and finished fifth instead of her normal second.

2ND RACE — Beam Us Up was favorite after very wide trip last out. He did not disappoint as he battled for lead with Shutter Speed and then put him away on turn. In stretch, he held off Flying Baron to get money. Latter was moving well late and should be tough to beat next out. Dream Boy switched tactics as he rated off pace but never showed any interest and was losing ground in stretch.

4TH RACE — Flag On the Gate set pace and looked to have comfortable lead entering stretch, but Fast and Fortunate, who was racing well back early, angled outside turing for home and closed with rush to catch tiring Flag On the Gate. Fast and Fortunate has won two in row for Suffolk Downs-based combo of Taylor Hole and Kevin Joy.

8TH RACE — Not So Fast again proved why he is one of hardest-knocking horses in training at NYRA this winter. Veteran state-bred stakes winner rated off fast pace set by Prince Monty, moved up on turn to take lead and then battled with inner track-loving Noteasybeingreen through stretch. At wire, Not So Fast was edging away and won by half-length.

10TH RACE — Joe Bravo, aboard Organized, sensed relaxed pace, made aggressive three-wide move on backstretch, then battled with pacesetting Blacksage Alley and got victory by head. Le Beaucet saved ground, then angled outside on turn and closed well to gain show.
