FIREFIGHTERS BRAVE BLAZE TO SAVE MAN

A trio of firefighters staged a daring rescue in a burning Brooklyn brownstone yesterday morning – knocking down a locked apartment door to pull an unconscious man to safety, officials said.

Flames and smoke were pouring from the windows of the three-story building at 101 Piling St. in Bushwick when firefighters from Ladder Co. 112 and Engine Co. 277 pulled up at 2:40 a.m.

As firefighters were searching the second floor, battling flames and heavy smoke, they received a report of a tenant still on the top floor.

Firefighters Michael Santana, Ronald Broome and Bernard Floody raced to the top floor and broke into the apartment, where they found the man, crippled by the smoke. He was carried out of the building.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to Cornell Medical Center, where he was being treated for smoke inhalation.
