BRAMBLETT DAZZLES IN HER DEBUT

Jennifer Bramblett, making the first start of her career as a jockey, won her debut with 64-1 Brazen Memories in the fourth race.

Bramblett sent Brazen Memories to the front and then held off favored Flint River in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length. Afterwards, the jockey colony gave her a shower of eggs, shaving cream and whatever else they could find in the jocks’ room.

For the California native, it was a dream come true. After exercising horses for Randy Brandshaw in California, Bramblett came to New York in April. She has worked for such trainers like D. Wayne Lukas, Todd Pletcher, Nick Zito and Joe Orseno in the mornings. She presently has no agent and named Jerry Bailey as the jockey she admires the most with his riding style.

1st RACE – Shanna, adding Lasix and making her first start against maidens, made a wide move around the turn to reach contention and wore down Big Miss in the stretch for the victory. Big Miss battled for the early lead and had drawn off to a comfortable advantage turning for home but couldn’t hold on in the stretch.

2nd RACE – Flo’s Double avoided the fast early fractions, made a four-wide move on the turn and drew away in the stretch for an easy victory. Big Steel withstood the fractions and early pressure from Quit Rents to hold on for second. Flo’s Double was claimed by Faustino Ramos for $20,000. Big Steel was claimed by Gary Sciacca for $18,000.

5th RACE – Race remained on the turf and Chloe Pond set the pace on the soft turf with D’avenir chasing in second. Favored My Success was last early but made a wide move on the far turn to reach contention. She took the lead turning for home but started to tire from her effort to reach the front and was all out to hold off D’avenir, Chloe Pond and Something Sleazy for the victory.

7th RACE – Liquid Icon and Gabbie Mawdie battled for the early lead, with favored Blues Begone stalking in third. On the turn, Liquid Icon put away Gabbie Mawdie but Jorge Chavez had Blues Begone moving well on the outside. Blues Begone was just off the flank of Liquid Icon turning for home but Jeremy Beasley wouldn’t give in despite losing his whip. He worked hard on Liquid Icon and held off Blues Begone in the stretch for the victory.

9th RACE – Race was switched to the main track and Daniel Coa took full advantage of the situation. He sent Renee’s Bubbles to the front with fast early fractions. Corner The Groom moved up on the outside to take the lead on the turn. But Renee’s Bubbles came back again and took the lead turning for home. The two leaders struggled down the stretch and while Corner The Groom was bearing out, Renee’s Bubbles crossed the wire first. It was the first victory for Coa in New York. Favored Melody Queen raced greenly in the stretch while saving ground and lost the place photo.
