About BBL Photofacial

A BBL photofacial is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment that uses broadband light technology to improve the appearance of your skin. BBL stands for broadband light, which is a type of intense pulsed light, or IPL (See further down this page for more information about the difference between an IPL treatment and a BBL treatment). During the treatment, a handheld device emits pulses of light energy onto the skin, which penetrate deep into the tissue and stimulates collagen production.

A BBL photofacial can treat a range of skin concerns, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Redness and rosacea
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne
  • Freckles

What are the Side Effects of a BBL Photofacial? Are There any Risks?

BBL photofacials are a safe and effective way to improve the appearance of your skin. The technology has been extensively studied and is FDA-cleared for use in cosmetic treatments. Some patients may experience mild swelling, redness, and/or following treatment, but should subside within a few hours. Although side effects are minimal, it’s important to discuss any potential concerns or risks with your provider at Rowe Plastic Surgery before undergoing treatment.

What is the Difference Between an IPL Treatment and a BBL Treatment?

There is a difference between IPL (intense pulsed light) and BBL (broadband light). While both use light energy to treat various skin concerns, IPL does not provide the same benefits to your skin that BBL can. IPL devices emit a broad spectrum of light that is absorbed in the skin, causing the targeted blood vessels or pigmented lesions to break down and be absorbed by the body. While this treatment is sufficient in addressing some skin concerns, BBL photofacials are more versatile. BBL devices emit a narrower range of light energy, which can be customized to target specific skin concerns. BBL treatments also stimulate collagen production, which can help to improve the overall texture and tone of the skin.

Are you a Candidate for a BBL Photofacial?

Want to enhance the health and appearance of your skin? A BBL photofacial may be the perfect option.

Here are some factors to consider to determine if you’re a good candidate for this treatment:

  • Age: BBL photofacials are most commonly recommended for those over the age of 30 looking to combat the signs of aging or sun damage
  • Skin type: Generally safe for light and medium skin tones, but some skin types may require a patch test.
  • Skin concerns: If you have issues like sun damage, age spots, redness, fine lines, or wrinkles, a BBL photofacial may be right for you.
  • Health history: Certain medical conditions or medications may make the BBL photofacial unsafe or less effective; you should disclose your health history to your provider prior to treatment.

BBL Photofacial Results

While some patients see results after just one BBL photofacial, you will typically need 3-5 treatments to see the full benefits. With proper skin care and maintenance, results can last several months or even years, making it a safe and worthwhile investment in your skin’s health and appearance. Like any cosmetic procedure, individual results will vary.
