Channing Tatum’s Bourbon Street Bar Closes After 12 Years

When actor Channing Tatum and his business partner Keith Kurtz opened the burlesque-themed bar and restaurant Saints and Sinners on Bourbon Street in 2012, it spurred endless Magic Mike jokes, a healthy bit of skepticism, and much excitement from the bachelorette party set. It made it 12 years — safe to say longer than many New Orleanians expected — before closing, somewhat abruptly, at the end of May.

A message posted to the Saints and Sinners website reads: “Effective May 27, 2024, we will sadly be closing our doors. We want to thank all of our wonderful guests and employees for supporting us over these past years. We are incredibly grateful to have been part of the French Quarter community.” Eater has reached out to Kurtz for comment but has not heard back.

Tatum and Kurtz teamed up for the bar after filming the movie 21 Jump Street locally and “falling in love” with New Orleans. The duo felt the French Quarter, and Bourbon Street specifically, lacked a bar scene targeted to women. At the time, Kurtz said he was inspired by Storyville, New Orleans’s regulated red light district from 1897 to 1917, and modeled the bar after a brothel, an interesting take on what constitutes a “safe haven” for women. The idea for a sexy-meets-semi-historical-meets-tourist-friendly bar was born.

Kurtz has been the primary hands-on operator since the beginning; Tatum showed up for the bar’s opening but has largely been a silent partner since. Kurtz still operates a foundation affiliated with the bar, called the Love Thy Neighbor Foundation; the Saints and Sinners website now directs patrons to its donations page.
