Many new products were developed, starting with the radio and Philips became a concern of many companies. The fact that all these companies were part of Philips, gave technologists the opportunity to cooperate and exchange knowledge. Development engineers all over Philips often came together to inspire each other; as well as mechanization specialists did. The high level of development made Philips a company of world-wide impact. From the 80’s on parts of Philips became independent companies but the sense of cooperation remained. A nice example is the accurate hydraulic actuator. It was developped for the production of the read-and-write heads of the videorecorder in the 70’s. It actuated the first waferstage of ASML in the 80’s. The underground Einstein Telescope will become Europe’s most advanced observatory for gravitational waves. This will allow researchers to hear black holes colliding and gain knowledge about the early universe. During the Kickoff of the Precision Fair, it was clear that the fair is once again excellently positioned. The current count stands at 350 exhibitors, while the maximum number of exhibitors is capped at 370. With this, the Precision Fair expects to attract around 5,500 specialists from the high-tech metal sector. Special attention this year is given to international visitors. During the previous edition in 2023, it became evident that interest in the Precision Fair is not limited to the Dutch borders but has international appeal. The fair welcomed professionals from Japan, Hungary, Switzerland, and the United States. This year, Mikrocentrum, the organizer of the Precision Fair, plans to further raise international awareness of the event. The kick-off of the Precision Fair was a success! Today, Bart Kooijmans and Stevie Martens shared all the ins and outs about the highlights, plans, and premieres that the next edition of the Precision Fair has in store. During the kick-off, everything was shared about the organization, the program, the layout of the exhibition floor plan, and the marketing and promotion plans. But that was not all! To make the upcoming Precision Fair a success, Ruben Onderdelinden from Lively Tech Agency was present. He shared all sorts of tips & tricks with the attendees about using the Mikrocentrum Events app and how this contributes to an efficient and effective exhibition participation. This is not surprising, given that the hightech sector is a crucial pillar of the Dutch economy, responsible for approximately 50% of all R&D investments in the country. To (continue) bolster this leadership role, more is needed. This requires knowledge sharing, connecting the entire chain, involvement from the education sector, the implementation of Big Science projects, and forging new collaborations. Therefore International collaborations are more important than ever.
