Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands will grace us with her presence as a keynote speaker, sharing her expertise with passion and insight. 👑 Princess Laurentien serves as co-director of the number 5 foundation, an ANBI foundation established by Prince Constantijn and herself in 2017. The foundation works on various societal issues such as child poverty, language development for ages 0-4, digital inequality, and sustainability. Under the umbrella of the number 5 foundation, collaborative efforts with affected children, youth, parents, and legal experts have led to the (Equal) Valued Recovery: a restorative solution for the childcare allowance affair. Since late 2023, she has been a co-founder and co-director of the (Equal) Valued Recovery Foundation. Meet Krzysztof Trzebinski, a 22-year-old entrepreneur from Poland, who "followed his heart" and moved to the Netherlands to pursue his studies at Tilburg University. In late 2021, he, along with his business partners, started his company Thirsty Clothing. Thirsty isn't just a brand; it's a budding startup with sustainability and transparency at its core. Designed for environmentally conscious individuals who dare to stand out, Thirsty is on a mission to produce textiles made from high-quality, eco-friendly materials while raising awareness and improving supply chain transparency. Tilburg University IQONIC is a part of the Knowledge Transfer Office. So last Friday, we literally rolled up our sleeves to contribute to society! As part of NL Doet, (a Dutch volunteering initiative) we took care of the front and back gardens of Den Herdgang nursing home in Tilburg and made them ready for spring. The residents of Den Herdgang can enjoy the sunshine again in a refreshed garden. Many thanks to Claudi, Wessel, and Cees from Den Herdgang for the warm welcome, lunch, coffee, and drinks! To make Central Brabant the hotspot for young, innovative entrepreneurs and student entrepreneurs with a mission: to make an impact on people and society. In MindLabs we took the minister on a "walk and talk", where the enthusiastic Niels Hermus of LETSDOGOODORG inspired him with his mission on socks: artists with a story (homelessness, psychiatry, addiction) design sustainable socks, of which with every sale a pair is donated to homeless people. A powerful example of a true Impact Startup! What is the key to success for these startups driving broad prosperity? Jantine Schuit of Tilburg University underlined the importance of a government that thinks along, the expertise of the educational sector, a network of market players and social partners who dare to experiment, and financiers who look at social returns. "All funding we obtained went into the technology aspect. It was a matter of not taking any salary for yourself. That was one of the reasons why I moved back in with my parents at the time," says Alumnus Martijn Ildiz.   Martijn is one of the speakers at Alumni Startup Night: Climate and Energy Transition, on March 28 (Tilburg University IQONIC). For ten years he has been running his own business, IM Efficiency, producing solar panels for trucks and trailers.
