Our choice of words, and the stories we tell, have the power to perpetuate or dismantle gender inequality. Small adjustments can make a big difference to how included our colleagues feel! So to kick off our inclusive language campaign this summer, we’re shining a light on the commonly used (but problematic) phrase: “HI GUYS” Why is it problematic? It is often used to address mixed-gendered groups in to set a more relaxed and informal tone. Yet by positioning men as the default, we fail to appropriately address our audience and perpetuate gender stereotypes. What we prefer, as a more inclusive reframing: ‘Hi all’ or ‘Hello everyone’ 💭 Where do you notice this being used? 💭How else could you greet mixed-gendered groups in an inclusive way? Please leave your comment in the Comments section below ⬇️ 🔜 Our education team are working on the second edition of the LEAD Network Gender-Inclusive Language Guide, due out in September. Exclusively available to Partners, the guide provides insight, tips & linguistic coaching to support the development of more consciously inclusive in corporate environments. Can’t wait until then? The first edition is still available to access via our DEI Content Library here: https://lnkd.in/gmYmx6xQ #LEADNetwork24 #WordOfTheWeek #InclusiveLanguage #ConsciousInclusion #Reframe

Much is written about the importance of finding your purpose at work for personal fulfilment. Newer research points to an additional benefit: organisations that amplify purpose can see collective progress and organisational success. In other words, we all win. The latest episode of the LEAD Network podcast, The Leading Edge, explores this topic in detail with the help of our inspiring guests. In this episode, our hosts Allyson Zimmermann and Sarah McGowan welcome Sumaira Latif, Proctor & Gamble’s first company accessibility leader, to illustrate the transformative power of purpose. This episode also features insights from leadership coach and LEAD Network member 🔹Lisa Murdoch, and motivational theorist Daniel Pink. #TheGlassCliff - Many have heard of the glass ceiling, but what about the glass cliff? Coined by Michelle Ryan and Alex Haslam in 2005, the glass cliff describes how women and those from marginalised groups are often placed in leadership roles during times of crisis, increasing their risk of failure. Understanding the glass cliff is important for promoting equitable leadership opportunities and for providing adequate support to leaders who are placed in these challenging positions. Join us tomorrow at 12:00 CEST for a panel discussion hosted by the LEAD Network Europe DEI Community. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gntbkSjg With our speakers: Mónica González Arrebola, South West Europe CIO, PepsiCo Alexandra Sierra, Site Leader, Amazon Angelina Michail, Head of HR Europe HQ’s & Switzerland, Ecolab #LEADNetwork24 #DoingNotTrying #DEICommunity Dorottya Gill-Zalay, Kasia Kochańska
