Today is World Ranger Day🌍 Would you risk your life to save a species? The World Ranger Day theme 2024 is '30 by 30', referring to the urgent need to protect and manage at least 30% of our planet by 2030 - a goal set by the Global Biodiversity Framework at COP15. Park rangers are the frontline heroes in this monumental task. Their dedication ensures that species are protected and ecosystems are preserved. Despite the grave risks they face—over 140 rangers have lost their lives in the past year alone, with many more deaths going unreported—these brave individuals continue to work tirelessly for a healthier planet. Today, let’s reflect on their sacrifices and show our support. Please share this post to honour their commitment and help spread awareness about their vital role in our global conservation efforts! Over ons
Future For Nature supports young, talented and ambitious conservationists committed to protecting species of wild animals and plants. The commitment of these individuals is what will make the difference for the future of nature. Through their leadership they inspire and mobilize communities, organizations, governments, investors and the public at large. Our flagship event to encourage a new generation of outstanding nature conservation leaders is the annual presentation of the prestigious Future For Nature Awards. We are also building a network to provide learning support, mentoring and financial assistance to the young conservation leaders. Future For Nature highlights the work and achievements of the Award winners as role models who can pass on the passion for wildlife conservation to other young people.

In April this year, a scientific paper by Langhammer et al. was released about the positive impact of conservation action. The aim was to assess whether conservation initiatives result in positives outcomes for biodiversity. They conducted a meta-analysis of 186 studies and, luckily, found that more than half of the time, conservation action had a net positive effect by either improving biodiversity or slowing decline! This article shows that nature conservation works, which is exactly why the Future For Nature Foundation supports young conservationists globally! In May 2024, the Tenkile Conservation Alliance (TCA), which is managed by #FFNwinner2010 Jean Thomas and her husband Jim Thomas, started a collaboration with the Rainforest Trust! Their aim is to legally protect the Torricelli Mountain Range in Papua New Guinea as a protected area and/or a Conservation Deed. This mountain range has a wealth of diversity and protecting is should stop further habitat destruction. In addition, they work closely together with local landowners and they will do active monitoring in the area. An exciting project with a bright future! Read more about their efforts on the TCA website and read more about Jean Thomas on our website!🌏🌿

Karen Allen, Future For Nature Award Winner (2015), is making waves in building coastal community resilience to climate change—one Dugong at a time! Inspired by her first Future For Nature Family Gathering, Karen established the Likhulu Foundation in 2022. Likhulu aims to reduce village dependency on marine resources by diversifying livelihoods. Recently, Likhulu trained and equipped a group of women to manufacture Dugong Plushies. The plan is to test plushy sales and market interest this August, with the goal to scale up to 20 women, and eventually to 100 by next year. Proceeds from plushy sales will support a scholarship fund for village children.
