Denim Deal A collaborative initiative to strive for more post consumer cotton textiles in denims

Over ons

In the Denim Deal it has been agreed that brands such as PVH, Scotch & Soda, MUD Jeans, 247 Jeans, KOI, Garcia and Kuyichi together make three million jeans garments containing at least 20% recycled textiles. In addition, all parties have agreed that they will work together towards the standard of at least 5% recycled textile in all denim garments as quickly as possible. Former State Secretary Van Veldhoven: ‘The strength of this Denim Deal lies in the fact that all parties involved in the making and processing of a denim garment will participate, from production companies, brands and retailers, but also collectors, sorters, cutters and weavers. We are initiating a change in the entire chain. Once that step has been taken, scaling up will be easier afterwards. That will make this Denim Deal a blueprint for making garments made from other materials more sustainable’.

🌟 Celebrating impact through collaboration! 🌟 A few weeks back, the final results of the Dutch Denim Deal, running from 2020-2023, were published. We are thrilled to share that over 12 million pieces containing post-consumer cotton were produced in the global market. This incredible result not only tripled the original target but also showcased the power of collaboration. 12 million clearly depicts the power that collaboration can have in creating impact at scale. Bringing key value chain partners together and driving cooperation has proven to be a successful strategy. We are immensely proud of what was accomplished and look forward to continuing our journey towards a more circular denim future. #DenimDeal #SustainableFashion #Collaboration #CircularEconomy #ImpactAtScale #Innovation #FashionIndustry #Sustainability #denimindustry

Fresh of the press, here is the final report of the Dutch Denim Deal. We are super proud to see the original target of three million pieces surpassed three times over! These impactful numbers are the very reason why we believe in the value of this collaborative initiative and why we are pushing for its global expansion.     For those of you just tuning in, here is a brief recap. The Dutch Denim Deal ran between 2020 and 2023. As a public-private initiative with the mission to close the loop in denim by scaling the use of post-consumer cotton in the industry. They set a key objective to produce 3 million pair of jeans containing at least 20% post-consumer cotton ( among other targets). After 3 years the results are in, and from a global market perspective, they have surpassed this original targets more than three times over. To get more insight into the results check out the full report: https://lnkd.in/etgd6S3s   A big congratulations to the original members of the Dutch Denim Deal for such incredible results.    We take this incredible wave of momentum and surf forward to our global target of 1 billion pair of jeans containing at least 20% PCR cotton on this next chapter of the Denim Deal.

🐘 ♻ The Elephant in the Room: Scaling Up Post-Consumer Cotton Recycling As we advance towards a more sustainable textile industry, there's a pressing issue we can't afford to ignore: scaling recycled post-consumer cotton. This challenge is the proverbial elephant in the room, and the Denim Deal is facing it head-on. 👖 💪 Our Approach: Action driven/ Learn by doing / Based on Business reality. Here’s why it's crucial: Massive Cotton Waste: Every year, millions of tons of cotton textiles end up in landfills. These materials represent not only wasted resources but also a significant environmental burden. Efficiently recycling post-consumer cotton can drastically reduce this waste. Resource Conservation: Cotton is a resource-intensive crop, requiring vast amounts of water and pesticides. By recycling cotton garments, we can conserve these precious resources and reduce the need for new cotton production. Reducing Environmental Impact: The environmental impact of producing new cotton textiles is substantial. By focusing on recycling, we can lower the carbon footprint associated with cotton farming, processing, and manufacturing. Economic Opportunities: Scaling up cotton recycling can create new business ventures and job opportunities in the textile recycling sector. It also fosters innovation in recycling technologies and sustainable manufacturing processes. Promoting a Circular Economy: Effective recycling of post-consumer cotton promotes a circular economy where textiles are continually repurposed. This not only extends the life cycle of products but also aligns with the principles of sustainability and resource efficiency. Tell us what you are doing to scale the use of PCR cotton in the textile industry. #Sustainability #CottonRecycling #CircularEconomy #FashionInnovation #PostConsumerCotton #CircularFuture #SustainableFashion
