Saddle up for an exceptional summer of sport! Situated close to our site in Montataire, we made sure Creil velodrome in northern France put in a medal-winning performance recently. It’s just had the honor of welcoming a certain flaming torch during the latest stage of a three-month-long journey around the country. Encircling the cycle track, around 850 liters of our Trimétal brand were used to paint a freewheeling tribute to sporting excellence. Delighted to welcome the Dutch Ambassador in Indonesia, Lambert Grijns, to our Cikarang decorative paints site. During the recent visit, he inaugurated an innovative high-speed tinting line and was given a tour of the facility, which produces Dulux products. The Netherlands is the largest European investor in Indonesia, with AkzoNobel operating four commercial and three manufacturing sites, actively contributing to the country’s economy and providing employment for more than 700 people. Did you know the iconic Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam isn’t actually white, but blue? Our Sikkens brand has been protecting and beautifying the famous Dutch bridge for the past 28 years. Over time, the original blue has faded and we’re currently working alongside Van der Ende Steel Protectors Group to restore “The Swan” to its former glory. Using around 1500 liters of light blue Sikkens paint, certified painting experts need nerves of steel to abseil down the side of a 139-meter-high pylon and give the entire structure a fresh coat. Great work by one of our colleagues to help celebrate 25 years of Kindig-it Design – famous for its starring role in popular TV show Bitchin’ Rides. Chris Harsh, a training instructor from our Automotive Training Center in California, US, spent 80 hours working his magic to create a stunning artwork to mark the occasion. Using hundreds of layers of our vehicle refinish paint, he crafted an eye-catching depiction of the Utah landscape – where the renowned custom car restoration company founded by Dave Kindig is located. Delighted that a newly updated, automated production line is up and running at our Suzhou site in China. Part of a €14 million investment, the recent upgrade will help us double the plant’s capacity for marine and protective coatings by 2025 and meet the country’s growing demand for high-performance antifoulings and wind power solutions. Already boosting daily capacity by more than 40%, this initial upgrade will be followed by further updates to double overall capacity before the end of next year. Other planned site improvements include a transition to using 100% renewable electricity by 2025, which will contribute to the company’s ambition of halving carbon emissions across the full value chain by 2030. Excited to see Pintuco roll out our “Flourish” brand identity in Colombia and Ecuador. It means 11 of our decorative paint brands around the world now use the multi-colored brushstroke logo. To help present Pintuco’s new look to the painting community, a roadshow of events has been taking place. They’re pumping up the volume on our Nordsjö brand at this year’s Roskilde Festival in Denmark. We supplied around 6,000 liters of paint for the world famous music event, much of it being recycled paint that would otherwise have been destroyed. Nordsjö products have been used on fences, buildings and furniture to help make them sing during the week-long festival. The brand is also playing support act for a team of graffiti artists, having been used to prepare wooden boards that will feature their artwork. #AkzoNobel #PaintTheFuture #Nordsjö #RoskildeFestival
